  • What began as a life crisis turned into a newfound appreciation for my own uniqueness. When I left my marriage, I worried what else I had left behind. Eventually, I realized I had started a new story - one filled with courage and self-compassion. Driven by a desire to embrace life on my terms.

    Burnt out, I quit my job in education, and felt like I had fully turned my life upside down. But then, I started reading, and crafting, and going to a whole lot of therapy.

    One day, I found myself thinking about The Hero’s Journey, a narrative pattern I spent a lot of time analyzing with students, and realized the archetype aligned with experience.

    I left my Ordinary World and Crossed the Threshold into a new, unknown world. Along the way, I’ve met mentors and found allies; faced tests and uncovered enemies; hit my darkest points; and, eventually, found The Reward.

    Like the transformed Hero who Returns with the Elixir, A New Sky is a promise to use my newfound strength and wisdom to guide others. An ally on your Hero’s Journey, a co-author of your new story.

By viewing life through the lens of a story plot line, you get psychological distance from the shame too often felt through ‘failure’. It is easier to be self-compassionate when you realize you are just a Protagonist in Act II, figuring out how to channel and leverage your unique superpowers.
